Slow Play Strategy In Poker

Poker Strategy

Slow play is a poker strategy that can bring you amazing result, destroying opponent's chip stacks. The slow game play is the strategy in which you “flaunt” weakness slow playingwhen actually your poker hand is strong after the flop. To explain better slow playing here’s an example: you have pocket fives and the flop comes 7-5-Q all off suit. This is a good moment for slow play poker for the reason that there are no flush draws and remote straight draws that are unlikely.

In this case to slow play all you need to do is to check when is your turn and then let the other players bet for you. The slow game play strategy works best against aggressive players because they will bet even when no one else will. The thing is that when they will bet you don’t need to hurry with a go all in strategy. Discipline yourself, simply call as on the turn there's not really a card that can come out that will alarm you too much so check-call again. Your time comes on the river when your opponent will bet. Then you’ll raise or check-raise if you want to get more chips.

One thing to understand is that slow playing is not the most advantageous solution every time a favorable flop comes up or every time you flop a set. For a slow game play you need to study the flop carefully to establish if it's a proper play. More, even if you have a favorable flop you should not use slow playing every time mainly if you raised pre-flop because checking after a raise can look suspicious to intense players but at weak home games or a weak table you could get away with it most of the time.

When talking about studying the flop I mean that you need to observe the possible potential draws on the board. Also, observe the possibilities of having your opponent holding cards that could be part of the draw. First, look for flush draws and then for straight draws. In such situations slow playing is not the best solution. But, you can try to slow play on the flop and after this speed up if a scare card comes on the turn to see if your set is still good.
