2008 Aussie Millions Poker Championship held at Melbourne's Crown Casino has it’s new king - Alexander Kostritsyn. The 21 year old Russian player won the title after defeating one of the toughest No Limit Hold'em tournament players in the world, Erik Seidel.
Kostritsyn is from Moscow and became a full time poker player at the age of 18. This was his largest win in a tournament and it is large indeed - AUD $1.65 Million – which is also the biggest prize ever awarded in a live poker tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. Previous to this prize, Kostritsyn finished on the 3rd place in the 2007 Russian Summer Poker Tournament where he won $8,900.
The Aussie Millions event emerged like this: The Russian young gun survived in face of another 780 players who anted up the AUD$10,000 buy-in for the 'Main Event', creating a record prize pool of AUD$7.80 Million. The total of 16 poker events at the Melbourne's Crown Casino resulted in total prize money of more than AUD$10 Million.

- 3rd place: Michael Chrisanthopoulos - $700,000
- 4th place: Peter Ling - $500,000
- 5th place: Nino Marotta - $400,000
- 6th place: Antonio Casale - $300,000
- 7th place: Peter Mobbs - $225,000
