PPA: a mixture of politics and gambling passion

By Daniel Michaels, Mar 19th 2007
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), which includes more than 160,000 poker players, recently announced that the previous United States Senator, Alfonse D'Amato, has joined the PPA to serve as Chairman of the Board and support the organization help lead efforts in Washington D.C. to protect the game of poker.

The new Chairman of the Poker Players Alliance, Alfonse D'Amato, has an enthusiasm for poker and politics since his youth. He also added that this new position will allow him to combine these two passions and to help create a reasonable policy that will permit American gamblers to benefit from the great game of poker.

Michael Bolcerek, the president of the PPA stated that they are more than happy to have Senator D'Amato support their cause, helping them promoting and protecting the game played by millions of Americans, namely poker. His enthusiasm, persistence and political wisdom will clearly sustain the authority of the PPA and will help offer the poker players a much deserved exception from the recent online gaming regulation.

It's a known fact that, back in 2006, more than 23 million Americans loved to play poker on the Internet. However, the recent government attack on online gaming has made it progressively harder for poker gamblers to benefit from this pleasurable form of entertainment on the Internet.

The senator D'Amato stated that, in general, the restrictions don't work, they only generate unplanned consequences. The American citizens are aware of this fact and they will ensure that the Congress will know it too. He also said that they surely need a reasonable regulation of online poker. By banning, the government will only force the gambling industry to go underground and eliminate any securities for children and any customer services for problem players.

Bolcerek mentioned that The Poker Players Alliance was created in 2005 to defend the right of poker gamblers to enjoy the successful American tradition of poker. He also added that Linda Johnson was the main figure in the organization's development, thanking her for the services offered to the PPA as its first Chairwoman.
