Before the poker enjoyed such success, many poker players were strangers, travelers, looking for a quick way to make money. In our days the game is different, now most of the times the winners are just regular people that want their 15 minutes of fame. But in our times another of those travelers has entered in the poker scene: Ellix Powers.
Not much is known about this player. A full article about him was written in Card Player, and in many poker blogs he is the main topic of discussion. Many say Powers was a homeless alcoholic that played in the casino once and became rich; others say that this is a story Powers invented, just to shroud himself in mystery. Now every time he enters in a tournament, cameras are all around him.
Powers managed to beat some of the best poker players despite his attitude and shady past. Not many are comfortable playing at the table with a man like Powers, a man that never held a job more than a few months, as he likes to say. Many players are doctors or lawyers but still they get beaten by Powers. Maybe Powers is the representative of all those past players, and a reminder where the poker came from.
