Erik Friberg, from Stockholm, Sweden played poker most of the times online, until when he managed to qualify to the main event of the 37th annual World Series of Poker. He was only 23 years old and the cameras surrounded him, something that he was not accustomed to.
At the final table he played a very tight game, which assured him the 8th place, a good place to finish for a beginner especially since that spot brought him almost $2 million. In 2005 he also won the Swedish Poker challenge, but that 8th place in the WSOP is his greatest accomplishment.
Phil Gordon interviewed him after the final table and asked him why Sweden does produces such a high number of poker players, and Erick answered because of the bond they share; they all invest in each others success.
