Howard Lederer played poker since he was a child. His ambition was to beat his father, thing he managed to accomplish.
Bad at Poker, Good at Chess
When he was 18 he moved to New York, abandoning college, to play chess. He was good at chess but playing poker seemed more attractive so instead he played more poker. He played during the night, because he worked during the day and always ended up losing, not having a clue why. Once he decided to have a good sleep and then his game started to improve.
No limit Player
He got more and more experienced and he usually played at the Mayfair Club in New York. He was one the first players that could play No-limit Poker in New York, when it was first introduced and by this he gained lots of experience. He played the game almost the entire day and then he talked about the game with the rest of the players, helping each other at various aspects.
The Brother and the Sister
His sister Annie Duke got interested in poker and that made Howard happy. He answered her questions regarding the game, but now she managed to become one of the best all-round woman poker players in the world today. Phil Hellmuth calls her the best. She knocked his brother out of three WSOP tournaments managing to excel him.
