Hoyt Corkins took a long brake from poker, 11 years more specifically, after he won the 1992 WSOP in the Pot Limit Omaha event. He spent all this time at his cattle farm in quiet, but because of boredom he returned to poker.
The Alabama Cowboy
Hoyt was born and grew up in Alabama. Since he was young he played poker with his father who thought him lots of useful techniques and strategies. He received the nickname "Alabama Cowboy" because of his image. Phil Hellmuth called him Mr. All-In after Hoyt won the WSOP because of his very aggressive playing style. Then after the tournament he suddenly quit.
The return
In 2003 he returned and played in an Omaha Hi-Lo tournament where he finished on the 13th place and won $575. A modest sum, but then at the World Poker Finals, only three months later he won more than $1 million. He played the game sick, having flue but he still managed to play great.
Farmer or Gambler?
Hoyt participates only in the major tournaments and when he does he lives in his Las Vega's residence. When he is not participating he lives at his ranch in Alabama, living like a true cowboy, a life style which suits him perfectly.
