Pat Poels started playing poker when he was in a very difficult situation: he quit his regular job, he had a wife and three kids and in order to win the Omaha High Low event in the WSOP he had to beat the remaining players, all 699 of them.
Pat wasn't overwhelmed by all these factors, in fact he was very successful on exceeding them, he even seemed very happy at the table. Many players show a very harsh face when they are in a tournament, Pat didn't, all he showed was happiness, maybe it was gratitude for the fact that he made it to the final table.
He made it to the final table, but on top of that he won it and he also won the golden bracelet and over $270,000. Now his decision of quitting his job seems a wise one. Pat won the WSOP for the first time and since then he was unknown. Now in the 2006 WSOP event everybody will be watching him and the opponents will try to beat him. If he plays like he did in 2005, they have a reason to worry.
